Jacqueline Mbabazi was quoted by the Daily Monitor as saying, she was on the onset opposed to Dr Besigye’s inhumane treatment; a matter she raised before the President.

“I remember one incident that really disturbed me and that is when Dr Kizza Besigye’s car window was broken and pepper spray thrown into his eyes in broad day light. It was very unfortunate. I remember telling the President and I quote: “We do not want a police state here,” she was quoted as saying.

Besigye said on Monday that he was glad such top leaders in the ruling party were coming out to speak the same language as the opposition.

“It was boldness for her not only to take the matter to the public, but also confronting the president,” he said.

Besigye went on to warn that President Museveni was unknowingly grooming his own slayers in his back yard.

“The reason I think that Mr Museveni will eventually land in hot soup is because of the silence of what he thinks are his supporters, who don’t alert him when he crosses his boundaries.”

He went on: “From what I know about Mrs Mbabazi and the NRM, I don’t think that she is talking on her own behalf. She is certainly representing a lot of people in the party whose voices have been crashed by the system.”

In her extensive outburst published over the weekend, Mrs Mbabazi reportedly accused Uganda police boss Gen Kale Kayihura utilising his position to influence matters concerning the ruling party.

She further made mention of what she termed as “lumpen elements” running various sections in the force.

Besigye said this had long been ignored by Ugandans as ‘opposition talk.”

“I remember some time back telling you that the Kiboko squad was coming out of the CPS. I am glad now you have an NRM women’s league head confirming that to you,” he said.
