The old Corporation’s board headed by Chris Katuramu was suspended in 2011 following allegations of financial impropriety.
Katuramu, together with the Managing Director and three other top managers were later arrested by police following reports that they had attempted to destroy incriminating evidence at the institution.
Attempts were futile to appoint an interim board as police investigations dragged on against the suspended board members.
“As the investigations continue, the term of office of the old board expired on December 1st 2013, and a new board has been approved by cabinet,” Namayanja told press at Uganda Media Center on Thursday morning.
Mr Igeme Nathan Nabeeta a former minister and Jinja Municipality MP was appointed new board chair.
Other members include, Mr Simon Kaheru a media and business analyst, who is currently government’s communications advisor under Ministry of East African community affairs, and an investigative journalist.
Wakiso District RDC Mr Ian Kyeyune is another member on the new board together with Mr Richard Barungi, Ruth Mena, Kabba Muhammad, and Sylvia Nakabugo.
The functions of the board, according to minister Namayanja include, formulation and review of corporation’s policy, approving annual budgets and action plans, appointment and disciplining of staff members among others.
