The Investigating Officer, Xavier Balyeijukya, says that they arrested Nanyondo at around 1.00pm at Mr. Lubega Manoti’s home, also her grandfather.
“We received information from our reliable sources that Nanyodo was hiding at her grandfather’s home in Bulo which we responded to immediately.”
He adds that on arrival, they sealed off the whole house and started searching for her.
“As the search was going on, one of the armed officers saw Nanyondo trying to escape through the window, then he fired some bullets in the air which scared her. She then cooperated.”
Xavier says that on arresting her, Nanyondo informed Police that the reason why she went into hiding was that after Mubiru’s death, she feared his friends and relatives would harm her.
“We have got enough evidence which includes the medical report with the history of admission being severe tetanus and the post-mortem report which shows that the cause of death is Sepsis indicating that the tetanus bacteria entered through a wound.”
“The Law says that if it is assault and a person dies within one year and one day and it is established that the cause of death was actual body injuries that was inflicted by the suspect on the deceased, then the suspect can be charged with murder.”
Police has opened up a file number CRB 537/2014 at Jinja road from which Nanyondo will be charged with Murder.
Xavier further adds that very soon as soon as the investigations are done, Nanyondo will be produced to Court.
