He noted particularly the contributions of the Ethiopian troops who recently joined AMISOM and their contributions to the recent successive military victories over Al-Shabaab forces in central Somalia, in AMISOM sectors three and four areas.

Dr. Tedros underlined Ethiopia’s commitment to support efforts to bring lasting peace and stability in Somalia. Ethiopia recently deployed thousands of troops to fight the Al Shabaab extremists in the war-torn country.

Several key towns have been seized from the terrorists in recent days.

Tedros said Ethiopia would continue to work closely with the Federal Government of Somalia, the UN, AU, IGAD and other international partners to remove the threat of Al-Shabaab from the political scene and in efforts to establish a solid political order within the country.

He underlined the need for increased support from the UN and the international community to put in place civilian administrations and humanitarian support in the newly liberated areas; and he reaffirmed Ethiopia’s unwavering support in the effort to support areas recently freed from Al-Shabaab’s control.
