“They are moving door to door, searching thoroughly well,” a source said.

Other SPLA soldiers have staged roadblocks along the main roads carrying out the same exercise.

The weapon search is in line with increased possession of arms by south Sudan civilians as a result of increased clashes ranging from tribal to national wars.

South Sudan which just disengaged itself from north Sudan has lots of militias who fought in the wars against the north and who were never disarmed.

According to multiple sources for example, the Nuer White Army is said to have reasonable numbers of civilians who were armed to take part in the current war.

It has also been reported that those who desert or get hospitalised, go with their weapons which they use in looting, raping and other criminal activities.

Considered illegal and dangerous, the government has decided to retrieve all guns possessed by civilians so as to curb unnecessary murders as well as lootings.

The exercise is expected to carry on for sometime.
