Starting next week, Democratic Party Youth Wing have vowed not to allow these unlawful campaigns to take place, saying the Electoral Commission had no right to organize for an election to refill a legally serving mayor’s seat.

Besides, if police claims to be nonpartisan, why have they allowed these campaigns proceed yet they blocked The Lord Mayor from consulting his voters just days ago?” charged Uganda Young Democrats General Secretary, Charles Wasswa.

“We have alerted all our UYD offices and mobilization is underway to disorganize the primaries,” he said.

“If it’s about exchanging with the police, we have the biggest number youths out there, we can deploy five of them to battle each police officer.”

Mr Wasswa further accused the Electoral Commission of rushing to organize the Kampala mayoral by-election yet they had refused to organize a similar one in Kyambogo university.

“To highlight the commission’s bias, despite a successful petition by the people of Kyambogo university for the removal of Councillor Buruhani Byaruhanga, they have not moved an inch to organize a by-election, even after authenticating the petition signatures, yet when the issue of Lukwago came up, they dashed to prepare for the poll.”

Police have on several occasions clashed with opposition youth during by-elections.
