The election that started as early as 8:30am was described by Mr. Byemero, Chairman Electoral Commission Makerere University, as free and fair, but he slammed the low turn up of students for voting.
In an election where less than 20% of the university population featured, Bwowe pooled up to 66943 votes, about 5000 more than 2nd placed Sarah Aseru who collected 1373 votes.
In 3rd place was NRM’s makeshift candidate, Philip Musiime, and FDC’s, Lillian Aber, came 4th with 868 votes.
Other candidates were; Nicholas Nanyeenya 421, Komakech Samuel 59, Julius Tabaaro 36, and Eddy Kintu garnering the least number of votes with just 29 people nodding in his favour.
The President elect took to the podium in front of the Guild office to assure the students that he is the medicine to all the disease that is affecting them.
He later thanked all the people for believing in him and especially his campaign team.
Organisation for swearing-in and handing-over ceremony are underway in the next few weeks, but Mr. Micheal Oponya, the Public Relations Officer, could not be reached to affirm the correct date as his phone was turned off.
The new President’s supporters, however, did not have time to exhaustively enjoy his hard fought victory when the police started firing tear gas to calm rowdy fans.
