However, in their weekly press brief today, DP announced that they would hold a separate poll in 2016, and that president Norbert Mao was in consultation with party leaders to that effect.

“Our president is meeting the party parliamentary caucus. If the EC doesn’t organize this election, we shall design our own strategies to hold our own lection,” said Mr Gerald Kiranda, the party’s youth wing president.

“All party MPs he noted would be mobilized along with many others from different parties to stand for different posts in different constituencies down to the grassroots.”

The party noted that such a proposal to extend the polls was baseless and only meant to help the ruling NRM party survive the 2016 hailstorm.

“When you look at the supporters of this Bill, many of them have never said a word since they stepped their foot in parliament. They know for a fact that their only way of survival to circumvent the 2016 election, but we won’t let them do that,” he said.

Government and the Electoral Commission have vehemently refuted knowledge of this proposal.
