Chimpreports caught up with one of the several contestants eying the seat Mr Ahmed Wakhweya who is coming in on the Forum for Democratic Change ticket and he told us, he was the next area MP.
He says Bulbulo has had a leadership vacuum since 2011 when MP Kipoi started playing hide- and-seek with local security operatives who accused him of cooperating with Congolese rebel elements to overthrow the NRM government.
Reports say he was arrested by Interpol and is being detained in Kinshasa pending extradition to Uganda to face charges.
“He has been a shame to us; back in our district we are being referred to as ‘Bubulo Wasted’ we badly need to rectify this,” Wakwheya told us.
He says he holds massive support from youths in the area as well as civil servants, being a former teacher and member on several local unions and organisations.
“The leaders we have had in the area have killed almost all our institutions through corruption, our teachers face unplanned transfers and have no one to run to, the NAADS programme dead and buried, all this and more is what I aspire to rectify.”
Wekwheya faces stiff challenge from the ruling NRM which is finalising processes to pick their flag bearer from six contestants.
The nominees set for the Saturday March 22 primaries are Nataka, Ronnie Waluku Wataka, Rose Mutonyi Aming, John Simiyu Wanderema, Habbas Peter Werikhe and Situma Munyanda.
