“Malakal is still a violent spot. The rebels have been clashing with the SPLA outside the town, but the rest of Upper Nile state has not reported any violence or clashes in the last 72- hours,” Aguer was quoted as saying.
Malakal, the capital of Upper Nile States continues to change hands between government troops and the rebels time and again.
The last encounter at the close of February saw the rebel force under Gen Gathoth Gatkuoth defeating SPLA and driving them out of the capital.
Reports later indicated that the city had been looted and left in ruins.
Agencies also reported a mass massacre where hospitals became deathbeds and corpses were spread all over the streets.
Currently, Malakal is under the control of rebels but SPLA says its committed to flushing them out at all costs.
