Normally, UN battalions are self- sustainable, but the Mongolians have a “moving around” tradition of hospitality.

“Mongolians are nomads and move with their herds,” said Mongolian Commanding Officer Colonel Erdenebat Batsuuri.

“In our culture, a group of nomads already settled in an area will always take care of the new group intending to graze their herds there as well. That is why we are extending our support to Ghanaians.”

As per a Security Council decision, Ghana has been requested to redeploy a battalion of 850 soldiers from Ivory Cost to South Sudan.

The troops will be responsible for security of civilians seeking protection at the UNMISS base as well as for UN and humanitarian personnel and installations.
