The Gallant Forces of SPLM/SPLA in Opposition under direct command of Brig. Gen. Simon Diang Duoth and under overall command of Maj. Gen. Gathoth Gatkuoth repulsed Government troops and thier Allies that had attacked our Defensive Positions at Tonga payam, Panyikang County (Shulluk Kingdom) in Upper Nile State.

The attacking forces were defeated on 9-3-2014, fled in disarray, suffered heavy losses both in terms of personnel and equipement and as result, our forces captured the following:

1. Four Toyota Landcruisers 3 mounted with 12.7 and 4th mounted with 14.5 multi-barrels (with 4 barrels)

2. One 107mm (multi-rocket launcher with 12 barrels)

We would like to dispute Army’s Spokesman claims that elements from 4th and 7th Divisions were involved in attacking on our defensive positions.

The truth is that 4th and 7th Divisons do no longer exist in government’s ranks.

The whole of 4th Divison under the overall command of Maj. Gen. James Koang Chuol in Unity State joined the rebellion in December 2013 whereas 7th Division in Shulluk Kingdom in Upper Nile State disengtegrated after its HQs was captured and its commander; Maj. Gen. Johnson Oliny was seriously wounded when our forces recaptured Malakal on 18th February 2014.

In fact, Tonga was attacked by elements from JEM and SPLA just made claims that do not reflect reality on the ground.

Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang

SPLM/SPLA Military Spokesman
