“The groups will play semi-finals and then we shall have finals,’’ explained Anthony Tumwesige, the University League Manager.

The winner of this year’s league will not be determined by most accumulated points as it has been in the first two editions.

The format is said to have been introduced to make the tournament affordable in terms of transport costs.

The team will have to travel six times to play away other than travelling eleven times as it would be if all the twelve teams have been drawn to play each other.

In other development, none of the Big League players will be allowed to play for any University this season.

New league entrants Gulu University and last year’s second last tabled Ndejje University are in trouble since many of their key players do play in Big League.

Kampala University are the defending champions of the University League after winning the championship on the last day in Mbarara.
