The UN mission for the stabilisation of the country (MONUSCO) said in a statement seen by Chimpreports on Tuesday that two people on a motorcycle threw a grenade at their patrol near the airport of Mavivi de Beni.
“This unacceptable attack… does not in any way reduce our support for FARDC (DRC Armed Forces) in the fight against armed groups,” said MONUSCO chief Martin Kobler.
“Our mission is to neutralise all the illegal armed groups in the east of the DRC, and we are determined to carry it out,” he added.
The Islamist Movement has in recent weeks lost hundreds of rebels to warplane attacks on their hideouts.
On Saturday two UN attack helicopters fired on an ADF base in the Mbau region of the eastern province of North Kivu as part of operations with the DRC defence forces against the group, said Kobler.
