Machar Names 3-Man Team As U.S Envoy Meddles

Meanwhile,a U.S special envoy, Ambassador Donald Booth, has today, Tuesday, met President Salva Kiir for the fourth time in eight days to urge him towards a political dialogue.


In his statement, booth reveals that he has also spoken with Dr. Riek Machar and senior officials of IGAD on the same matter.


“I am pleased to be able to report that both the government of the Republic of South Sudan and the opposition forces aligned with Riek Machar have agreed to send teams to Addis Ababa today to begin talks,” Booth pointed out.


Ethiopia, on behalf of IGAD, confirmed this, a short while ago in a statement released in Addis.


“We see this commitment to send negotiators to Addis as a first step, but an important first step, toward achieving a cessation of hostilities and a negotiated settlement of the violence that has gripped South Sudan for the past two weeks.”


Booth promises to continue engaging to get the talks started.


In a related development, President Salva Kiir has challenged Riek Machar to wait for 2015 elections and defeat him by the ballot instead of waging a war that suffocates the same citizens he wants to rule over.


“I did not come to power through a military coup…elections are coming in 2015. Why did Machar not wait so for that same process?” Kiir queried.
