At least two other passengers were seriously wounded.
“Somalia, still struggling to build up its health services, relies on the goodwill of NGOs and medical personnel who work in incredibly difficult conditions to save Somali lives,” said SRSG Kay.
“I condemn this attack and those who continue to seek to halt the country’s progress; I urge the Federal Government of Somalia to thoroughly investigate this heinous crime and bring those responsible to justice.”
The attack is the latest in the escalation of terrorist activities in the war-torn country.
The United Nations recently endorsed African Union’s move to deploy more than 2,000 combatants in Somalia to maintain security in areas captured by the peacekeepers from Al Shabaab and also build capacity among the national armed forces.
