Lawyers, Grace Nuwamanya Karuhanga and his sister, Jolly Akandwanaho, are accused of murdering their father – Mzee Daniel Karuhanga.

It is alleged that the suspects in August used a machete to kill Mzee Karuhanga, 87, and five others from Kacumbiro village in Kiruhura district.

Prosecution further alleges that after the murder, the group also robbed Karuhanga of his car and Shs 12m.

The group appeared before Chief Magistrate Olive Kazaarwe in late October but they were not allowed to plead to the charges since the court did not have the powers to hear their case.

Kazaarwe directed the transfer of the case file to the Registrar of the High Court who will ensure that the suspects and their file are transferred to Kiruhura district where they allegedly committed the crime, for committal and trial.

They were remanded until January 14, 2014.

Mzee Karuhanga and family Murder

According to Joyce Kabashaho, the widow, about six assailants, wielding machetes, stormed the homestead at about 1am.

She said they first invaded the boys’ quarters, where they killed Eldard Tumwine, a casual worker who also served as Mzee Karuhanga’s bodyguard.

The thugs immediately attacked Timuzigu, chopping the student who was preparing to report to Makerere University for his first year of study, to death.

The group then descended on Mzee Karuhanga, also bludgeoning him.

They later killed his driver and another labourer.
