The Hon Member of Parliament for Bulamogi County, Kenneth Lubogo, who represented the Right Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga said that, the reiterated the Speaker’s words calling upon all Ugandans to come up and donate blood across the country.
“Let us donate blood most especially in this festive season where blood is needed as drivers drive carelessly and Ugandans die in accidents,” Lubogo said.
A poor blood donation culture by the eligible population is partly to blame for the limited units of blood in blood bank.
When a person reaches the age of 16 and is in a healthy condition, then he or she is eligible to blood donation but many youths do not turn up for this exercise.
From the 34 million Ugandans across the country, only 170,000 people can donate blood on a regular basis.
Reverand David Jolly, who was at the function said that this campaign was started on December 3, in Jinja district.
“Today it has been at City Square in Kampala and on 20th, it will be in Mbarara,” he revealed.
He has also called upon other churches and the general public to come up and join this campaign of blood donation.
