“It is about FUF, and as we move forward into our final stages of official launch, Kampala now is on total panic,” he added.
Sejusa’s group is expected to officially launch its operations at a function in London a few weeks from now.
Police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba on Monday explained that hundreds of heavily-armed Counter Terrorism personnel and Rapid Response Units had been rolled out along Kampala streets in a bid to tighten security amid fears of planned terrorist attacks.
In the city, Chimp Corps reported that the armed forces beefed up security at government institutions, foreign missions, shopping malls, fuel stations and commercial banks.
Nabakooba said the unprecedented security measures were instigated by an intelligence report received by the law enforcement body on Sunday.
“Police last evening received information from credible sources of a plan by a group of people to unleash terror attacks in the city today Monday. The plan involves a group of thugs either on foot or boda-boda riders attacking and burning petrol stations and buildings in the city especially business premises,” said Nabakooba in a statement seen by Chimpreports.
“As Police hunts down the thugs, and takes precautionary deployment in all petrol stations and in the city especially in the central business districts (CBDs), we appeal strongly to proprietors of public places especially petrol stations and business premises to be extra vigilant particularly do not allow strangers near your premises, urgently report to the nearest Police station, security official or LC official of strange movement,” she added.
Sejusa’s aides are facing charges of treason at the Military Court Martial in Makindye.
Prosecution alleges that Sejusa had used spies in the army to infiltrate the Special Forces Group (SFG) so as to have access to classified communications about the strength, operations and secrets of the elite force that guards the President and country’s strategic installations.
In his statement recently, Sejusa, who is wanted in Uganda for treason and desertion, said “no one should imagine that Museveni will be removed through elections.”
However, speaking at a press conference in Kampala on October 3, Museveni also warned Sejusa of grave consequences if he chose the path of war.
“If he wants to use force, let him come. He knows my address…We have been waiting for him for a few months now,” said Museveni.
He added: “Sejusa is already a deserter. He has already made a lot of mistakes and he will be handled according to the law.”
