Museveni’s message:

“Salutations to the memory and work of Mzee Mandela”

Your Excellency Jacob Zuma,

I heard the sad news of Mzee Mandela’s death this morning. I am now writing to convey my condolences to the family of Mzee Mandela, to ANC and to the People of South Africa.

Mzee Mandela, along with his colleagues Albert Luthuli, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Oliver Thambo etc, gave almost all their adult lives to the struggle for the freedom of South Africa and its people.

They acquitted themselves admirably by doing what they ought to have done.

It is us now and those who are younger than us to consolidate the work of those elders and ensure that Africa is immunised against future marginalisation and re-colonisation.

Salutations to the memory and work of Mzee Mandela.

Signed:
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

President of the Republic of Uganda

6th December 2013
