Justice Keitirima led the Judicial Integrity Committee, a body which assesses the performance and code of conduct in judiciary, following reports that Mbarara “was rotten to the core and engulfed in corruption scandals”.
The judicial team at first met some of the complainants who accused the judiciary for delaying case judgments noting that some of them have been compromised by the victim hence delaying cases.
Angry residents told the team that due to the delay of cases, a lot of murder cases have increased especially in the case of land disputes.
They also reported that police are doing their work but when case files reach in the office of the state attorney, they don’t go to court.
“This prompts the complainants to seek revenge by resorting to murder which has increased the crime in the area,” residents explained.
During a heated meeting with the judiciary, justice Keitirima warned them to work in line with their professional code of conduct lest they lose their jobs.
