“My client is very sick at a hospital in Kinshasa and he has instructed me to tell this committee that he is unable to be here and the committee should get him there if need be,” Mbidde told the committee.

This came after the committee chaired by Fox Odoi asked Mbidde as his genuine lawyer to explain why the embattled MP was not present.

MP Tony Kipoi

Mbidde said his client was much willing to appear before the committee to give his side of why he has been absent from parliament.

Mbidde also interestingly revealed that the legislator was still interested in his constituency unlike the media reports which alleged that the MP was no longer interested in his Bubulo seat.

The chairperson of the committee, Fox Odoi, then directed that “they can only consider this request after Mbidde produces documents indicating the name of the hospital, name of the doctor working on the MP and the location of this hospital where Kipoi is allegedly admitted.”

It should be remembered that in October, Kipoi presented questionable medical documents in a letter addressed to the Speaker that he was supposed to go to South Africa for a specialised treatment but just two days after the letter was delivered, he was reported to have been arrested in the deep forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
