“It is very unfortunate that now the opposition councilors within KCCA are fighting each other creating mob justice against their fellow members which is no different from that of the ruling party,” he noted.

Mao noted that the people of Kampala have neglected the major issue and are now resorting to fighting each other in the opposition adding that the fighting is only aimed at benefiting the sitting president and the party in power.

“President Museveni’s desire is to effectively control Kampala, grab resources and use them to meet his political ambitions and this is the country’s biggest problem that should be fought by all democracy seeking citizens instead of fighting each other,” he noted.

Mao further observed that Kampala has got resources, prime property, revenue centers in the park and all facilities surrounding the people which the president wants to be under his control.

“One should ask why Museveni has declared a life and death struggle over Kampala; is it that he hates Lukwago! That’s just an explanation that he wants to control the resources which he will use to bribe the youth and the women so that he sorts out himself in 2016,” Mao cautioned.

Mao said Museveni has played all tricks to ensure that Kampala is in his hands and this is portrayed through the KCCA act which mandates that the Lord Mayor answers to the minister in charge of Kampala who also answers to the president directly and therefore, indirectly the Lord Mayor answers to the president.

“The politics that Museveni is playing in Kampala is the politics of controlling the money basket that is in Kampala,” Mao added.

This comes at a time when the ruling NRM party caucus is sitting at President’s office in Kampala to discuss the impeachment of Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, among other things.
