The local council chairpersons were drawn from the sub counties of Buyanja, Buhunga and Nyakagyeme.
“The district leadership has received information that some chairpersons have already sold off the bicycles at a sum of Shs 150, 000,” Kabajung pointed out.
She then added: “These bicycles were procured by government at a cost of over Shs 250,000 each and it is illegal to sell government property at any cost.”
Kabajungu further noted that these bicycles are meant to help the LC leaders to reach out to their people and if sold, the culprits will be brought to book.
This was the second batch of bicycles to be given out to the chairpersons after the first batch which was given out during the preparations of the Independence Day celebrations in October.
The government fulfilled its promise to give all local council I and II bicycles after it was hit by a snag of procurement that ended up in courts of law.
