The programmes manager for NACWOLA, Ms Rose Birungi, has said that NACWOLA, while reaching the youth, is implementing a three years project in five sub counties of Busongora north which include Bugoye, Karusandara, Maliba, Rukoki and Nyamwamba division in Kasese municipality.
“The project is being funded by the civil society fund and is targeting the youth in schools, the married couples, boda boda riders, commercial sex workers and the truck drivers,” Birungi said.
She also noted that within this year, the project has been able to create community awareness of the HIV prevalence and that the community now knows where they can test for HIV-AIDS thus the stigma has been reduced.
Meanwhile, the secretary social services Kasese district, Ms. Peluce Kabagenyi observed that there is need to include women in the fight against the epidemic, mostly the married couples and the vulnerable mothers.
“The women dealing in alcohol trade (bartenders and waitresses) need to be sensitised on how they can protect themselves,” Kabagenyi said.
Kabagenyi further asked for more attention by the implementing partners on the youth out of schools and the people living with disabilities who are also vulnerable to the epidemic.
