DUA is a platform in which the member parties come together and exchange views on matters of policy, organizational interest with an aim of fortifying promotion of democracy.
The reelection took place in Lesotho, last week where Dr. Besigye came through unopposed.
In his congratulatory message to the Colonel, FDC president Major Gen. Mugisha Muntu hailed DUA membership for entrusting Col Besigye with the top office.
“This was in recognition of his good leadership and commitment to attainment of good governance, justice, and democracy in Uganda and Africa as a whole,” said Muntu.
“FDC is confident that he will continue to use his position as DUA president to strengthen and unite all democratic forces towards a common vision of an Africa where people can enjoy their dignity and human rights.”
Dr Besigye has often times used his position at the continental body to project the situations of bad governance and human rights violations in Uganda to the international community.
