The President was paying tribute to Mityana Catholic Diocese during the celebrations marking the 32nd Diocesan day and Christ the King festivities held Saturday at the Diocesan Cathedral in Mityana town.

The ceremonies were led by the diocesan bishop, Rt. Rev. Joseph Anthony Zziwa.

President Museveni who congratulated the Christians upon the 32nd Diocesan anniversary said that Christians and some of the leaders of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese assisted him and other freedom fighters during the liberation struggle.

He said that whenever he travels to Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, he goes as a pilgrim.

He commended them for their faith and efforts to develop themselves. He encouraged them to put in more effort towards enhancing household incomes.

The President stressed that wealth can be created through agriculture and livestock production adding that services can be provided as another mode of creating wealth.

He also noted that ICT was another facility in the wealth creation process. He, therefore, reminded the congregation that modern necessities require money in sufficient quantity to cover food and other needs.

Mr. Museveni revealed that he would soon convene a conference for religious leaders to address issues pertaining to promoting education and other developmental issues.

He said that NRM Government and religious leaders would also address such issues as provision of lunch to pupils benefiting from the UPE Programme. He said that in 1986 when NRM came to power, there were 2.5 million children in primary schools as compared to 1.5 million who enrolled in 2013 alone.

President Museveni stressed the NRM’s total commitment towards improvement of education in the country. He said that the country was now able to move on well using our own resources because the revenue collection had improved tremendously. He stressed that the main issue was to set the correct priorities.

He informed the congregation that Government was spending Shs. 440 billion in to conclude the construction of Kampala – Masaka highway adding that Mpigi – Maddu – Sembabule road construction would commence during the current financial year using locally generated resources.

He informed the people the construction of Kampala – Mityana road was done using locally generated resources. He also said the Government laid the Myanzi – Kiganda electricity line using its own funds.

The President commended Bishop Zziwa for preaching and sensitizing the people on the danger of the HIV/AIDS scourge. He stressed that the vital issue was faithfulness in marriage relations.

He emphasized that Africans should value their lives adding that life was wealth. He donated Shs 30 million to Bishop Zziwa as his contribution towards the 32nd Diocesan anniversary celebrations.

Kiyinda – Mityana Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Joseph Anthony Zziwa saluted the President for his contribution towards the development of the Diocese.

He noted that Government has extended socio-economic facilities nearer to the people citing the completed road network in Kiyinda – Mityana Diocese.
