The opposition firebrand said he had stopped at the restaurant to have lunch.
“I was beaten seriously by the thugs who move in Police van UP 1928; they first threw me in the police patrol vehicle and changed me to the van in CPS grounds. One of the thugs sat on me, while others came beating and insulting me all the way back to my home in Kasangati,” said Besigye after being escorted from Kampala town to his residence in Kasangati, Wakiso.
He added: “This was completely unprovoked brutality; clearly intended to torture and intimidate me. Its effect on me is the opposite. I’ll try to prosecute the criminals and I am energized to fight for my rights and for a just and good government. No turning back.”
Police publicist, Judith Nabakooba refused to comment on the matter. “What i know is that Besigye is at his home in Kasangati,” she told this Corp at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala.
Besigye was early this week arrested and detained for two days after being found in downtown Kampala where he intended to address a public rally.
Police had earlier warned opposition activists against holding a rally without fulfilling the requirements of the Public Order Management Act.
