Timothy Magala, who is charge of supervising registration for elite athletes, revealed today, Thursday, that Kangor Dominic who won the MTN marathon confirmed two days ago that he will also be available for the competition.
“We hope to have descent representation of elite athletes from neighbouring countries like Kenya and Tanzania,” Magala said.
Other foreign athletes who have registered already include; Rosina Kibono from Kenya who was third last year in the female race of 42km, Bryton Katesigwa from Tanzania, Motu Megersa Gedefa from Ethiopia who will all compete in the 42km women race.
Lami Hayle Berhanu from Ethiopia has also confirmed to take part in the 42km men’s category among other foreign and elite athletes.
The winner of this marathon in the 42kms will walk away with 14m shillings both in the men and women categories but also winners in other race categories (21kms, 10kms) will also be awarded accordingly.
In another development, we have learnt that the Inspector General of Uganda Police, Maj Gen Kale Kayihura is set to lead the police team during the marathon.
Therefore, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Iddi Ibin Ssenkumbi has promised solid security during the marathon.
Registration was postponed to Friday this week as the event will take place on this Sunday November 24th.
