order http://class-actions.us/wp-includes/feed-atom.php geneva;”> While addressing a weekly press briefing at the party headquarters in Kampala, the DP presidential press secretary, Fred Mwesigwa has called for calm and patience among the people of Kampala, saying the party has launched its legal team to challenge the tribunal report implicating the Lord Mayor.
Mwesigwa said the people of Kampala must know that the report was just a recommendation which is still liable to any challenges but does not mean the end of Lukwago at City Hall.
“Though today elections for the councilors representing the four professional bodies within Kampala are under way; our legal team is set to challenge this entire move which is only aimed at impeaching the Lord Mayor,” he pointed out.
Mwesigwa also noted that “our legal team led by Hon. Richard Lumu yesterday sought for the registrar at the high court seeking to block the elections of these councilors which is a move to have a full quorum in the authority,” He noted.
He added that it is now to their advantage that the law council has not participated in the election and this still makes the quorum that is needed to impeach the Lord Mayor lacking.
“Nevertheless, it is within the provisions of the KCCA act that the Lord Mayor calls for a special council meeting to swear-in these elected councilors of which he will not call and this will still challenge their legality,” Mwesigwa explained.
Mwesigwa has also condemned the manner in which the police arrested the Lord Mayor yesterday and other political leaders without proper explanation and good reasons for the arrest.
The KCCA Tribunal found Lukwago laible for incompetence, misconduct and abuse of office.
Police have also blocked a political rally organised by Lukwago in Kampala, saying it was illegal.
