The 93.3 kilometer road construction is to be undertaken by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) at a cost of over Shs184 bn.
The project is to commence immediately and is slated to take 36 months to complete.
President Museveni who was equally excited about the first project of constructing the road in Karamoja said such trees are not only profitable but also help fix the nitrogen in the soil and provide shade.
President Museveni told the gathering that he was very happy to preside over the function when there is total peace in the region.
The Minister for Karamoja Affairs Mrs. Janet Museveni reported that Karamoja is today at peace not only internally but also with her neighbors.
She said it is now time to open up Karamoja for development and ensure the region feeds itself as well as its neighbors.
The Minister of Works and Transport Hon. Abraham Byandala said the project will ensure efficient delivery of social services and will also the boost trade in the region.
