“President Museveni has now become the only law, lawyer and the judge over land issues in the country due to the weakness in the Land Act. These issues must be addressed now by Parliament if harmony is to prevail in the Ugandan society,” Mwesigwa said.

He noted that the current law gives power and authority over land to two groups of people – the land owner and tenant hence causing more wrangles.

“This should be addressed in the shortest time possible to clarify who has full power over land,” said Mwesigwa.

The development comes amid rising tensions in Kayunga District over land wrangles between tenants and landlords.

Mwesigwa has advised the people to always engage in lawful means as the only secure way of solving land issues.

He also called upon President Museveni to institute and operationalise the land fund which would help people gain legal access as the only secure way of regaining their land.
