According to Kajjansi Police Station District Police Commander, Edison Muhanguizi, the official was shot twice in the chest after arriving at his residence in his Land Cruiser brand car.
Muhanguzi said detectives found a blood-soaked Ssejemba whimpering in excruciating pain before he was rushed to Nakasero Hospital for medical attention.
“As of now we are still looking for the assailants and if apprehended, they will be brought to justice,” said Muhanguzi.
The eyebrow-raising incident comes just a few days after another Works Ministry engineer, Eng. Patrick Balamu Bisuuti, was shot and killed.
Police publicist, Judith Nabakooba today said Nabakooba said Police on Tuesday night visited Bisuuti’s former place of work (Ministry of Works) “and we have lined up a few staff for interrogations.”
It is widely believed that Bisuuti was a victim of bickering among senior engineers at the Works Ministry after he moved to cancel contracts of non-performing road contractors.
He had earlier recommended to his superiors that government takes over some road contracts for organizations that had fallen short of delivering in specified timelines.
Police is yet to confirm whether Ssejemba’s shooting is related to Bisuuti’s murder put the possibility remains high, according to informed police officials.
