“Thugs in taxis use various tricks including asking a passenger to assist them adjust driving mirrors so that they access their bags and rob them of all property,” he stressed.
Ssenkumbi explained that a one Arthur Mawejje, a taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly robbing a woman of Shs200, 000.
“The lady was robbed in a taxi driven by Mawejje but fortunately the former was able to detect it and made an alarm leading to arrest of the driver,” Ssenkumbi added.
“If you see three to five people occupying a taxi, don’t rush to board it as these may be robbers,” warned Ssenkumbi.
Meanwhile, 56 year –old Moses Lule has been arrested for conning a land buyer of Shs 100million.
It’s alleged that the suspect claiming to be an accountant tricked a buyer into selling him four acres of land in Matuga by forging the land title and driving permit.
“This is not the first time Lule is arrested under similar circumstances. He was also arrested for impersonating as an assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali but was later released,” explained Kampala Metropolitan Area Police spokesperson Idi Ibin Ssenkumbi on Monday.
He added that the suspect will be charged with seven accounts including impersonating, theft and uttering forged documents among other charges.
