The operations, http://cleanenergybiofuels.com/wp-includes/comment-template.php led by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) under AMISOM, are targeted against Al Shabaab training camps and its senior commanders in the tri-border area between Middle Juba, Lower Shabelle and Bay region.
Targeting these remaining Al Shabaab locations is expected to complement the operations already being conducted by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and other allied forces as well as deny Al Shabaab freedom of movement and further reduce their ability to perpetrate attacks against the civilians in Somalia and the region.
The operations come against the backdrop of Al Shabaab’s terrorist attack at the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya.
Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta has since vowed to extend punitive action against the Islamist militants.
AMISOM said in a statement seen by Chimpreports on Friday that operations are being conducted following clearly defined objectives which have been validated following extensive surveillance and intelligence in order to minimise the chances of causing civilian casualties.
The operations have since been rocked by allegations of corruption, theft of food and fuel supplies by senior army commanders.
At least three UPDF officers, including Brig Michale Ondoga, were on Thursday charged before Makindye General Court Martial with failure to execute his duties and theft of soldiers’ supplies.
