A controversial figure, Ridolfi, shot to fame when he described President Museveni’s state-of-the-nation address as a “pity.”

Ridolfi’s remarks triggered off a heavy government backlash with senior Foreign Affairs quizzing the diplomat and warming him that meddling in Uganda’s internal affairs was unacceptable.

According to information on the European commission website, Kristian was the Director, Human and Society Development Directorate, Directorate-General for Development and Cooperation – EuropeAid until September 2011.

He also acted as Resource Director and Principal Advisor, EuropeAid Cooperation Office/Directorate-General for Development and Cooperation – EuropeAid, European Commission between March 2010 – August 2011.

Kristian was also Deputy Head of Cabinet of Vice-President Siim Kallas, Administration, Audit and Anti-Fraud between May 1, 2004 and February 2010.

In the Danish Foreign service, Kristian was First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations, New York (1997-1999); Head of Section, Danish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Department for Foreign and Security policy, Peacekeeping Operations (1995- 1997); Department for East and West Africa (1994-1995). Head of Section, Danish Ministry of Industry (1993-1994).

Kristian takes over at a time when government is insisting that foreign diplomats should only stick to development matters.

Addressing diplomats at a recent function at Commonwealth Resort, Munyonyo, President Museveni said he was not ready to take lecturers of “good governance” and “democracy” from foreigners.

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the Commission on Thursday said Kristian has considerable prior experience as Deputy Head of Cabinet to Commissioners responsible for development and administration, as well as an established development policy track record.

To complete appointments as Head of Delegation, an accreditation request for a new Head of Delegation is sent to the host country.

The selected candidate may take up duty only once accreditation of the host country has been granted and a number of administrative formalities have been completed.
