While addressing journalists in Kampala on Monday, Lukwago noted that KCCA Executive Director, Jennifer Musisi and Tumwebaze wrote to the Electoral Commission requesting it to organize elections for the mayorship in Kampala.

Lukwago also added that, President Yoweri Museveni called for a closed door meeting at State House which was attended by Musisi, NRM councilors including Bernard Luyiga, Angella Kigonya, Hawa Namugenyi, Zahara Luyulika and Lawyer Kiwanuka Kiryowa to “find ways of twisting the law in order to remove him from his seat.”

“In the meeting the councilors were requested to vote for the removal of the Lord mayor but these asked for Shs25m from the President as bribe in order to pray the game, but the president left them to negotiate with lawyer Kiwanuka Kiryowa and after discussion was made that they are to be paid,” explained the Lord mayor.

Lukwago therefore noted that he has petitioned the speaker of Parliament to inform her about the developments.

Contacted, Tumwebaze described Lukwago’s bribery allegations as “just lies and total rubbish.”

“Lukwago is peddling lies to attract public sympathy. I have never written to the Electoral Commission directing them to organize fresh elections for the Mayor,” Tumwebaze told Chimpreports.

He, however, admitted that a meeting was held between the President Museveni and Councilors on the request of the latter.

Tumwebaze said Museveni “met Councilors from both ends of the political divide – NRM and opposition,” and that there was nothing like bribery.
