Rubandana was a resident of Nyakabungo cell in Kagarama parish.

According to the South Western Police Spokesman, Elly Matte, the deceased is said to have been having misunderstandings with his wife for a long time.

It all started today morning at around 8:00am, with the deceased walking to Nyakabungo Trading Center to shave his hair.

Shortly after returning to his house, Rubandana asked his unsuspecting wife to buy maize grains from the neighboring shops.

“On my return, I was shocked when my son told me that my husband had hanged himself in one of the rooms next to the kitchen,” Matte quoted the deceased’s wife as lamenting.

“Police were notified and we rushed to the scene. Inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of this suicide” added Matte.

The incident comes at a time when teachers are on strike, protesting government’s failure to increase their salary scale by 20 percent.

It remains unclear whether the suicide is connected to the teachers’ strike.

Government says it does not have enough resources to increase the teachers’ salaries.
