5 Kyambogo Students Arrested

“These students were arrested in the morning hours of Tuesday as they indulged in illegal activities such as vandalizing school property and mobilizing their colleagues to hold a violent strike,” said Mbabazi.

“Investigations into the matter are still underway. We are optimistic that the suspects will soon be arraigned before Nakawa Court for proper management.”

The arrests come against the backdrop of a strike held by the University students on Monday protesting the new tuition payment structure.

Students are required to pay the full amount of their tuition before the end o the sixth week into a semester.

Jinja Road District Police Commander, Wesley Nganizi said anti-riot police personnel will maintain control of the University’s security to keep law and order.

The institution’s management was expected to sit on Friday to decide on the way forward in regard to the students’ grievances.
