“Three suspects have been apprehended,” Police added without mentioning names.

The injured civilians are currently hospitalised at CHUK and King Faisal Hospital.

This is the latest in a series of grenade blasts that have since rocked Kigali.

On July 26, suspected FDRL militants detonated explosives from the crowded Nyabugogo taxi park, killing at least one person and injuring eight others.

Former FDLR combatants, Jean de Dieu Ntakirutimana and Jean de Dieu Mugaboniki were later paraded before journalists at Kicukiro Police Station, Kigali, where they claimed responsibility for planting and detonating the explosives.

They further said the attack was part of a wider plan to destabilize the country.

The suspects said they received instructions from FDLR Colonel Enock Bizimana, promising them big rewards after the current government was overthrown.

“Col. Bizimana promised to reward us for detonating the explosives as soon as FDLR captures power which we were told would happen in the not-too-distant future – before January 2014,” said Ntakirutimana.

Early this year, a grenade explosion near Kimironko market left one dead.
