Therefore, as one way to promote Uganda’s tourism activities, the ministry of Tourism together with other stakeholders has decided to run a beauty pageant where the overall winner will get a chance to represent Uganda in the Miss Tourism international pageant due to take place on December 3 in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia.
“The major reason for this event is to serve as a platform to educate and promote tourism and cultural exchanges among contestants. It is also intended to showcase to the country our natural resources as well as cultivate the culture of travel,” said Irene Zikusoka chairperson for miss tourism pageant.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, Mrs Zikusoka said the search started on July 31 and the finals are to take place on October 5 at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
Meanwhile, one hundred participants were selected to enter the auditions but only fifteen managed to go through the first round finals.
“The top fifteen finalists will show case the famous tourist attraction sites and will spend twelve days touring the big six tourism sites as way of marketing them,” said Mrs Zikusoka.
“At the end, the top three winners are going to win touristic related prizes,” she added.
