Onyango said Police suspects the Rav 4 brand car, registration number UAQ 563G, in which the lawmaker was travelling, lost control following a tyre burst.

As the car swerved off the road, said Onyango, “it had a head-on collision with Fuso brand lorry white in colour being driven by a one Herbert Ssekinde, a resident of Gayaza in Wakiso district.”

“The MP sustained serious injuries on her right arm while three children who were travelling with her got minor injuries,” he added.

The 44-year-old MP was traveling to Kampala after a family trip to Pader.

The accident victims were at first rushed to Nakasongola hospital for first aid before being transferred to Mulago hospital for “further management.”

Onyango attributed the accident to reckless driving.

The Gulu-highway has in recent months claimed lives in bus and other motor vehicle accidents.

Police boss Gen Kale Kayihura’s convoy was recently involved in an accident along the highway.
