FDC’s Kampala city office is based at City House where the women activists were holed up.
The latest development signals the return of women protests which had dominated newspaper covers in 2011.

Finance Minister Maria Kiwanuka recently proposed to apply VAT on the supply of water to generate revenues Shs.8 billion in taxes, a move rejected by opposition activists as “exploitative.”
“This should not affect the prices paid by the majority of low-income consumers, as the price of a jerrycan from National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) will amount to about Shs.40 at communal taps,” said Kiwanuka.
