The traders were captured at Paizano Bridge near Nyamirima town – just 20kms from the Uganda border of Ishasha before being whisked away to Nyabitare forests.

Police Commander Kanungu district, Edson Muhangi told Chimpreports the traders were traveling in a Fuso truck registration number UAS 144D which was left abandoned but quickly added that security teams of both countries would take up the matter.

The revelation signals the growing levels of insecurity in the region.

“We are following up the case but given its magnitude we shall involve the government of Congo to rescue our people,” Muhangi said.

In 2011 a Uganda truck driver was ambushed and shot dead at the very spot where the latest ambush has taken place and the lives of these three people is now feared to be in danger.

Traders and truck drivers trying to get into Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have always complained of harassment by the militias who control the corridor from Ishasha to Goma saying that their goods are normally confiscated whenever they fail to raise money demanded by the militias.
