“The sale of premature fish has greatly led to the depletion of fish stocks and it will have a negative impact to the country in future,” said Mulangira.

Under his office, Mulangira said he will not allow any body selling young fish in the region.

“Routine inspection on market days and landing sites is already in place to ensure that traders only sell mature fish to save the country of possible outcomes,” he said.

Mulangira cautioned fish traders to always present their trading licenses and movement permits first being carrying out any transaction in order to help the fisheries department in identifying which lakes the fish are coming from.

He also warned local leaders who have been misleading fish traders that when a fish is transported from Rwanpanga fishing site when it’s premature, by the time it reaches Mbarara district it will have matured something.
