“Tumusiime was shot by police as he tried to resist arrest by attacking the police officer. He wanted to use a machete to cut one of the policemen. In the process of the struggle, the police officer shot at him and injured him in the ankle,” said Maate.

It is alleged that Tumusiime who the police have been hunting for over a year is a renowned burglar.

He was seen at home by the residents who decided to tip police leading to his arrest.

Mate said that shortly after his arrest, the police searched his home and his father Charles Iramuremye’s home where they recovered some stolen items including clothes, over 20 pairs of shoes, crates of sodas and beer, utensils and electric gadgets among other things.

The area chairman John Tumuhimbise told Chimpreports that Tumusiime has been “a threat in the area as far as security is concerned as he would break into people’s houses and steal their property.”
