Kalungi had appeared together with his co-accused who are out on bail and his lawyer, Yunus Ntanzi Kasirivu.
The suspect is jointly charged with five others – Noor Abubakar, Khan Babu, Abdul Abid Rashid Butt, Fatuma Babu and Ali Omar Almuzhim in connection with the MP’s death.
Kalungi, an alleged close associate to the departed legislator, was arrested from his hideout in Mombasa in January following Nebanda’s death.
The Kenyan authorities later handed him over to their Ugandan counterparts in eastern Uganda.
The government alleges that Kalungi is a “known peddler” of drugs, and that its toxicological tests established there were traces of heroin, cocaine, and alcohol in Nebanda’s body samples.
Nebanda passed away in December 2012 under unclear circumstances, prompting some of the Members of Parliament to point fingers at the government.
Angered by the accusations it said were groundless, government arrested some legislators and renowned city pathologist Sylvester Onzivua. They were later released.
