But according to Chimp Corp, Ritah Nabulya’s investigation, what is most vivid in this market is the Kabaka of Buganda because in almost every stall, you have a portrait of Kabaka’s royal family hanged on the wall.
A trader in this market only indentified as Julius, dealing in ladies shoes assured our Corp that one has to be extremely conscious when dealing with these mechanics otherwise, they would rob off your car parts when actually trying to repair your car.
He narrated that last week thugs robbed a side mirror from the parked vehicle along Kampala road and sold it to a trader in Kisekka market.
“The owner of the vehicle later on came to buy another one but to his surprise he was given a side mirror having the same number plates like his car,” said Julius.
“He tried to report the case at the nearest police station but unfortunately he was not helped.”
Chimpreports spoke to Ibin Ssenkumbi, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, who confirmed that police have received many cases of theft from that market.
“We have received many cases. However, we have positioned our personnel to monitor the place and cooperate with the market leaders to always arrest reported thieves and bring them to police.”
“These traders are sometimes violent and when you arrest them like that, the mob can easily attack you. Therefore the leaders are used as the intermediaries,” added Ssenkumbi.
Isaac Ssebalamu, a taxi driver found in the Kisekka market as he had gone to repair his vehicle said, “If you want to know what real Kampala means, you come to repair your car from here. By the time you leave this market, you will be having more problems than you came with.”
He added that one can buy a new spare part to be fixed on his car but the mechanics will instead exchange it their own and put an old one.
