S.A Minister To Speak At Joseph Mubiru Memorial Lecture

buy geneva; font-size: small;”>Manuel was South Africa’s Minister of Finance between 1996 and 2009, during the Presidency of Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe.

He was also named African Finance Minister of the year in 1997 by Euromoney.

Throughout the last decade, Manuel has served at various national and international financial institutions including the Development Bank of South Africa, the African Development Bank, IMF and the World Bank.

The 20th Joseph Mubiru memorial lecture which took place last year was held at Speak Resort Munyonyo under the theme; Market Failures in the Financial System: Implications for Financial Sector Policies, especially in Developing Countries which was graced by President Yoweri Museveni.

Professor Stiglitz was the guest speaker and he presented a paper on Market Failure in Financial System.

During his presentation, Prof. Stiglitz a Nobel Laureate in Economics and Professor of Economics at Columbia University said developing countries must ensure that their financial systems serve their development agenda.

“The Washington Consensus ideology has inflicted a high cost on developing countries, especially in Africa,” he observed.

Bank of Uganda holds the Joseph Mubiru memorial public lectures annually in memory of the first Governor Bank of Uganda, Joseph Mary Mubiru (R.I.P.)
