“We are going to step up the checkups on all cars that are suspected of transporting children from Karamoja to the streets of Kampala,’’ stressed Kyateka.

He said crimes against children are not acceptable before appealing to the public to report all culprits so they can be brought to book.

He further noted that First Lady Janet Museveni, who is also the Minister in charge of Karamoja, is as well taking bold steps to get children off Kampala streets.

“We have to address the problems that force the children from their home areas, if its water we shall address it and if its food we shall address that,’’ stressed the commissioner.

He therefore called upon all the local authorities to put in place laws that will help reduce the children from the streets.

He further warned that the ministry together with KCCA would arrest all those who assist the street children through provision of food and money.

“I call upon all organizations that give money to street children to stop it because its these pool factors that encourage children on to the streets.”
